There is so much tumult occurring within human interaction around what in a fundamental sense are ethical and moral issues.
For some the changing perception of others represents an emerging ‘woke’ culture antithetical to habitual norms and vested interests. This is our ‘woke’ awakening! Whilst perhaps a term intended as derogatory to those espousing or claiming a more ‘enlightened’ perception of life; the rise of ‘woke’ culture also represents a significant shift in collective human perception.
It reflects an awakening to the destructive nature of denial and prejudice found in so many old, habitual beliefs and ‘norms’ – an emerging realisation of the need to abide by the natural laws of equality, equity, fairness.
We see this graphically playing out through social change movements focused on protecting democratic values and exposing discrimination particularly as the ‘black lives matter’; ‘me-too’. For all of us the climate change movements are just asking us to acknowledge what is staring us in the face.
Whilst ‘woke’ culture may not yet be fully awake, it reflects an emerging realization that to sustain ourselves requires us to live and work together cooperatively and collaboratively, rather than as adversaries.
it is an encouraging flicker of light in the darkness of separation thought that has no limits on how far it can shine!
Certainly, there is strong resistance to change by many, yet it is only the fear of change, the fear of losing control of an apparently limited reality that offers any resistance to the Light.
So, all I can say is that to the extent each of us feels ‘woke’, lets fearlessly shine our light! What really have we got to lose?
With love and blessings, Andrew Solomon
